Wednesday, December 19th marks 1,000 days since New York's Paid Sick Leave Bill was introduced into the City Council. This landmark is no celebration.
- In those 1,000 days, paid sick leave laws were implemented in Seattle and the state of Connecticut. Meanwhile San Francisco and Washington, D.C. had paid sick leave laws on the books the entire time.
- In those 1,000 days, millions of New Yorkers got the flu, or needed to tend to a sick child or an elderly parent. Thousands of New Yorkers have lost pay and even lost their jobs because they lacked a single paid sick day.
And still we wait.
Paid sick leave isn't a luxury - it provides critical flexibility for working parents, strengthens families and neighborhoods, and ultimately reduces the cost of doing business for employers.
