Statement by Public Advocate de Blasio on Court Decision Halting Eviction of Religious Groups from Schools

February 16, 2012

"The courts have rightly ordered Mayor Bloomberg to back off the discriminatory policy of evicting religious groups from public school buildings. All along, this has been a simple issue of fairness. Religious organizations have the same right to rent a room as any other group. Holding them to a different standard is wrong. The City needs to end this punitive policy and let these pillars of community back into the buildings they have used for so many years. Common sense demands nothing less."
