“Today’s approval of the Upper West Side rezoning plan is a victory for New York’s small businesses and consumers alike. Retail corridors are a vital part of our City—providing goods and services to local residents, building community ties, and creating local jobs to grow and sustain New York’s economy. This plan will ensure Upper West Side commercial space is not unduly dominated by large banks and retailers, instead preserving the small and diverse storefronts that define this neighborhood. I applaud Councilmember Gale Brewer and stakeholders for making this plan a reality, and urge the Council to approve it without delay.”
