“NYU’s growth is an integral part of our city’s economic future, and the question we have wrestled with is how it can grow responsibly. The university and its critics have both come a long way to craft a better expansion plan. With recent changes to building size, allowances for open space and additional community spaces, I believe this plan deserves the City’s full support.
“The university, Council Member Chin and local residents deserve tremendous credit for coming together to address these critical issues, and I encourage all parties to come to agreement on retaining affordable housing at 505 LaGuardia Place. The expansion plan is respectful of Greenwich Village while affirming NYU’s role as a vital economic engine within our city. When approved, it will help secure New York City’s future as a center of innovation and higher education that is second to none. ”
